Young Lisa chose to stay with her mother Lavonne and it became a struggle to just live from day to day. She remembers traveling a lot to save money and stretch. Despite her numerous challenges, her mother Lavonne recognized the need for a quality education for Lisa. She then graduated with honors from Mount Holyoke College in Massachusetts and received a degree in biochemistry.
In order to fulfill her lifelong dream of becoming a doctor, she completed a residency program at the University of Southern California and received her doctorate in medicine in obstetrics and gynecology from the same university.
